As a self-taught web designer, I found “Flash MX Designer’s ActionScript Reference” to be a breakthrough book. I had been struggling with ActionScripting for more than a year and finding it frustrating and difficult to learn. The approach used in this book turned my view of ActionScripting from frustrating to exciting. More than any other book, “Flash MX Designer’s ActionScript Reference” really helped take this computer neophyte to a higher level of knowledge. The examples of ActionScripting and the wonderful resource CD helped me to truly understand how to approach design and interactivity challenges.
This is one of those books that helps bridge the gap between designer and programmer. After going through all the tutorials and source flas, I truly understand the power and possibilities of ActionScripting. I constantly refer to “Flash MX Designer’s ActionScript Reference” for my flash projects. This book has helped me succeed at interactivity projects that I would have turned down in the past.
A definite “must have”.

Every time I sift through the bookstores looking for someone who speaks to
what I want to achieve as a designer, and for a presentation that doesn't
leave me cross-eyed from geek-speak . . . I usually walk out of the store
with a Friends of Ed book. This book is extensive, without being
indecipherable. A great ActionScript resource, with all the essentials
presented in real-world examples, and it has a complete AS dictionary
included in the back. Everything I need in one package.
